booten vom sw-raid1

hallo zusammen,
ich habe einen strato dedicated server gemietet, in dem 2 sata platten
als software-raid 1 konfiguriert sind.
jetzt habe ich meinen eigenen kernel installiert, aber die kiste kann
damit nicht booten.
zur info vorweg: ich moechte keine initrd.
ich dachte CONFIG_MD_RAID1=y wuerde reichen um auch ohne initrd vom dem
sw-raid1 zu booten.
bevor ich jetzt x kernel kompiliere - kann man ueberhaupt ohne initrd
vom sw-raid1 booten?
