[ILUG] what happend to my old /boot?

.. none of these command should have destructive side effects on /boot
or LILO/GRUB configuration

But:  You surely rebooted after compiling and installing..

- Is /boot in your /etc/fstab ?
- Is there support for the filesystem type of /boot in your kernel?
- Did you write the MBR after installation (make install should do that) ?
