Also bei mir funktioniert das prima mit mehreren Netscapes.

Du hast aber auch auf die Backticks "`" geachtet, nicht war?

Wenn du 

TF=`tempfile`
echo $TF

machst und "tempfile" ausgegeben wird, dann hast du die falschen
Hochkomma benutzt!
