Probleme mit Adaptec 1542B und Toshiba MK538FB

Hallo zusammen!

Ich kämpfe wieder mal mit meinem 486er, dem ich mit ein paar Alt-Teilen auf
die Sprünge helfen wollte. Somit habe ich einen alten Adaptec
1542 SCSI-Controller und eine ebenso alte Toshiba Festplatte MK538FB
(immerhin 1,2 GB!) eingebaut.

Beim Versuch SuSE 6.3 zu installieren gibt es folgende Probleme:

Nach Booten über die Installtionsdiskette und erfolgreichem Laden des Moduls
für den aha1542 bricht der Installationsvorgang bei der Partitionierung der
Platte ab. Auf Konsole 3 ist zu lesen:

Beim Laden des Moduls ist mir aufgefallen, dass auch hier schon für meine
Begriffe seltsame Meldungen kommen:

Wo kann ich ansetzten, um die Sache in den Griff zu bekommen? Leider habe ich
für den aha1542B nur die Doku, die bei Adaptec auf der Web-Seite zu finden
ist. Dort sind nur die Jumper-Settings beschrieben. Bei meinem stehen alle
auf ´default´- Ausnahme J8 Pinpair 1  --> removed (Floppy-Controller
disabled).

Weiß jemand Rat?
