BLOB auf MySQL

Hallo...

Ich hab' da ein Problem mit der MySQL;( An der einen Stelle im Manual
heißt's:

In most respects, you can regard a TEXT column as a VARCHAR column that can
be as big as you like.
--------------------

'As big as you like' ist für mich irgendetwas in der Größenordnung 20..200MB.

Aber dann kommt das "Problem":

The maximum size of a BLOB or TEXT object is determined by its type, but the
largest value you can actually transmit between the client and server is
determined by the amount of available memory and the size of the
communications buffers. You can change the message buffer size, but you must
do so on both the server and client ends. See section 10.2.3 Tuning server
parameters.

...und da ist dann zu lesen, daß man 'max_allowed_packet' auf den längsten
einzusetzenden BLOB setzen soll. Allerdings steht da leider nicht, ob's da
dann auch noch Beschränkungen gibt;( Hat schon mal jemand größere Mengen
binärer Daten in eine MySQL gepackt und ist dabei auf die Nase gefallen?
...oder kann ich beruhigt anfangen, Code zu produzieren?
