ppp-problem

Moin zusammen
Ich habe dort wo samba läuft ein Problem ins Internet zu gelangen.
Kppp wählt, versucht was auszuhandeln und bricht dann ab.
In "messages" taucht folgendes auf: 

ifup-ppp: pppd started for ppp1 on /dev/ttyS1 at 115200
...soweit so gut

modprobe: can't locate module char-major-108
...das fehlt, was fehlt ?

pppd[6053]: The remote system (ppp1) is required to authenticate itself but I
pppd[6053]: couldn't find any suitable secret (password) for it to use to do so.
...soll etwa der Provider sich anmelden ?

Irgendwo steht wohl etwas zuviel drin oder es fehlt noch ´ne Kleinigkeit.
Kann mir mal jemand die Augen öffnen ?
